Wear types and characteristics of injection mold parts

Normal wear of injection mold is divided into initial wear and constant wear, which can prevent mold failure or problems in advance by replacing new parts; Abnormal wear refers to the wear phenomenon that is not normal wear. Abnormal wear can be divided into the following five typical types.

1. Abrasive wear of injection mold parts

Definition: Abrasive wear refers to the phenomenon of surface material loss caused by the friction between the surface and hard particles or hard protrusions.

Features: When there is a difference in hardness between worn parts, this form of wear often occurs. Harder materials can bite into softer materials, causing scratches and wear.

2. Adhesion and wear of injection mold parts

Definition: Mechanical wear caused by adhesion that migrates materials between two surfaces of friction.

Characteristics: In this wear form, the protruding parts of the component collide with each other, and a part of the adhesion occurs, and as the adhesion grows, this part becomes a transfer molecule and eventually falls off as a grinding chip.

3. Fatigue and wear of injection mold parts

Definition: When two contact surfaces do pure rolling or rolling and sliding composite friction, under the action of high contact compressive stress, after the multi-force cycle, small pieces of material in the local area of their interaction surface spalling, forming pitting points or pits.

Features: This refers to the metal fatigue caused by repeated loading and unloading load (repeated operation and stop), and leads to wear.

4. Fretting wear of injection mold parts

Definition: Fretting wear refers to a compound type of wear caused by small amplitude vibration between compressed metal surfaces.

Features: This is a wear pattern on the surface of the mating part causing fine nobbly wear.

5. Corrosion and wear of injection mold parts

Definition: Wear corrosion is the local metal corrosion caused by the joint action of material surface wear and corrosive medium. Due to the mutual promotion of wear and corrosion, the destruction process of metal materials is accelerated obviously.

Characteristic: This is a wear pattern that occurs in a corrosive environment. The potential difference between the metals leads to the defect of the sliding part, which leads to rapid damage due to wear.

Normal wear of injection mold refers to the gradual wear of parts in the process of touching or sliding each other. From a technical point of view, it is possible to make wear and tear difficult to occur, but unless it is a contactless design, it is difficult to prevent it from occurring at all. The mission of Fanstar is to master the core technology of injection molding production, to communicate and analyze the technology before the production of injection molding with customers from the production needs of finished products, so that the injection mold delivery time is short, the service life is long, the mass production is fast and the finished product quality is excellent!
